Why is regina so evil

When Regina was about to be forced into a marriage with King Leopold, Regina and Daniel planned to run away so they could be together instead. Cora didn't want this as she wanted her daughter to become a powerful queen. In front of Regina, Cora ripped out Daniel's heart and crushed it. It can't get much worse than a mother murdering her daughter's lover in front of her. This trauma devastated Regina and was an injustice that led her down a dark road of vengeance.

In order to cast the first Dark Curse, Regina needed to crush the heart of the person she loved most. Regina's father was always kind to her and always tried to help her be her best self. He stood by her side and showed unconditional love all throughout her life. Regina did go through with killing her father so she could cast the Dark Curse.

Even though it was a difficult decision for her, it confirmed Regina's ruthlessness and that she would be willing to eliminate anyone to get what she wanted.

Regina worked so hard to become a better person. She even opened herself up to the possibility of true love and found it in her relationship with Robin Hood. That made it all the more tragic for Robin Hood to leap in front of her to protect her and be stabbed the Olympian Crystal. While several deaths were undone on Once Upon A Time , this was a different story as the Olympian Crystal permanently obliterated a person's life and their soul.

Regina saw her lover Daniel killed in front of her when she was a young woman and now she had to watch her true love Robin Hood die in front of her as well.

Thinking back to Season 1, Emma's arrival in Storybrooke was such a pivotal moment not just because she was the Savior, but because she gave Regina something to fight for. Life in Storybrooke prior was humdrum and completely ordinary; she may have been running the town as the mayor, but it can hardly be said that her life was full of excitement.

And while it may have taken her a long while to fight for the right things, Regina was always a survivor, and it's safe to say that now she's well on her way to becoming a hero, too. While Regina has always loved Henry, she sure had a funny way of showing it for a while there. It wasn't until he rejected her completely that she finally had a realization that what's best for Henry wasn't always what Regina wanted for either of them.

Once she started actually putting him first, their relationship grew into a truly beautiful thing. In season one, this was the formula that we all followed to see where everyone stood, who we would back, who we would cheer for. Suddenly, there was this incredibly smart, self centered, beautiful, and complicated woman who was more than just the bad guy.

She surpassed the concept of what we knew of a fantasy show antagonist. She became someone exceptional and original who knew the love of a mother, the pain of loss, and the freedom of joy and happiness.

And she has sought out the one thing that all human beings seek in life — to find her happy ending. She had to prove that she was willing to fight for him, to change for him. Even though it was hard, even though everyone doubted her, and even though she teetered between being good and evil constantly…Regina stayed and thrived.

When she joined on the rescue mission to save Henry from the clutches of Peter Pan in Season 3. She fights for what is hers, and as time passed, she learned to fight not only for herself, but also for her loved ones and what she believed was right.

Regina showed us that there was more than one side to a villain. As the villain, it was easy to show us that she knew hate, revenge, loathing, and jealousy for her subjects and the people in her way. So this prophecy of the fairy dust way back in season 3, we thought that this was a way to honor that and to show that it was right in its own way. Just like she had to let go of Daniel, she had to let go of Robin. The question remains how having both the dark and light side within her again will change Regina moving forward.
