Which slayers death activated faith

Although Faith was still perfectly capable of upholding her duties, the show's story was largely focused on Buffy as the Slayer. In many ways, it still seemed like she was carrying the torch alone, like she was still the Chosen One, even though she technically wasn't.

The answer to why there wasn't a third Slayer called is actually quite simple: the Slayer line continued through Faith, not Buffy. While Buffy came back to life in season 1, for the sake of the line's continuity, the torch was passed irrevocably; she retained her powers upon resurrection both times, but the gift was never solely hers again.

One possible suggestion that has been made about why Buffy behaves like she's the one and only is because, not only do other people treat her as if she is, but she has gotten so wrapped up in her calling and mission that she can't see it any other way.

She's the star of the show, the focal point of Buffy the Vampire Slayer , and while it acknowledges that other Slayers exist, it's ultimately her story. Season 7 changes this up by completely opening the Slayer line to include all Potentials, but even before that, Faith was the true successor. Upon her death, a new Slayer would have been called. When Buffy said that, she may have thought Faith was dead I can't recall exactly when Faith returned, but I seem to recall Buffy believing she'd killed her for a while. Finally, I think you may have your quote wrong. I believe Buffy actually said that she thought that both she AND Faith would have to die before any of them were Chosen. Improve this answer. Ah, you are probably right about the third point. Although it still doesn't make sense, because really only Faith would have to die. Unless your first point is also true. Buffy kept her "Slayer" abilities when she dies as seen in one episode where Giles takes them from her , which seems to say that Buffy was indeed still a Slayer and her death should cause another slayer to appear.

That evidence points to the first one to me. Also, there was no diminishing of her power when Faith was named, so there could potentially be several that the show didn't follow or weren't under a Watcher's eye. Thanks, Captain Obvious. Endymion posted over a year ago. Endymion said: When Xander resuscitated Buffy at the end of Season one the Slayer line was changed forever.

In the past that had never happened because Slayers were solitary warriors without companions. Kendra was activated when Buffy briefly died. That ended Buffy's contribution to the Slayer line.

When Kendra was killed Faith was activated. When Buffy died at the end of season 5 no new Slayer was activated because the ancestral line is now with Faith. Buffy was already removed from the ancestral line. Faith would have to die for a new Slayer to be activated.

That exact paradox is why the First was drawn to the Slayer in the first place. When Willow raised Buffy from the dead, that was the final straw. By all accounts, Buffy the Slayer should not have been able to exist, which gave the First an opportunity to gain a foothold.

That is, until Willow ultimately changed the rule that there can be only One. Potentials only come into the picture after Buffy comes back to life and empowers them all, which was the whole premise behind the series finale.

In 7x12 "Potential" they all say that in order for Dawn to be the slayer that Buffy would have to die. Buffy was furious after her "body swap" act and believed Faith incapable of redemption or remorse. Faith tried to apologize to her, only for Buffy to angrily threaten her. Buffy's animosity towards Faith increased when Angel jumped between them and defended Faith. Faith and Buffy had an angry confrontation on the rooftop in LA. While Buffy continued to lash out at her for taking everyone important away from her and pushing her away every time she tried to help her, Faith argued that Buffy couldn't understand what it was like to be lost, and have nothing but pain and hate in life.

Again, Faith tried desperately to get Buffy to forgive her or at least allow her to make things right, but before getting an answer, the Council attacked. Despite the anger Buffy held towards Faith, when the Council attacked Faith, Buffy willingly fought by her side to protect her and personally took out one of the team.

In the end, Faith turned herself in and went to prison as punishment for her crimes, including murder. Buffy had wanted this from the start, but never expected Faith would do it willingly. When Faith returned to Sunnydale to help fight the First Evil, Buffy again accepted her as an ally although not before punching her. Faith tried to follow Buffy's lead, and was hesitant to become the leader after a brief mutiny against Buffy.

However, Buffy surprised Faith by encouraging her to embrace the leadership role. After Buffy and the gang were reconciled, Buffy and Faith discussed their contentious history, and Faith concluded that the reason they had never gotten along was because two Slayers were never meant to exist at the same time.

With this, Buffy and Faith finally made peace. However, when Buffy was transported to London where Faith had gone undercover in order to defeat a homicidal Slayer, she jumped to the conclusion that Faith had turned evil again and proceeded to attack her with Faith getting the upper hand and nearly killing her in an act of desperation.

Later, Buffy and Faith made peace again when they were forced to get rid of their powers, appearing to finally develop a somewhat strained friendship. After the destruction of the Seed of Wonder , Faith told one of the Slayers she guided that her relationship with Buffy was "complicated.

Frustrated, Buffy promptly hung up on her. At the occasion, Buffy received her amicably and invited her to stay, [82] although Faith couldn't help but feeling left out by Giles's choice in staying with Buffy. Happily surprised by her arrival, Buffy hugged her, to much of Faith's discomfort, and gave her the Scythe, while Faith promised it would be temporary.
