One of his mantras in life was that we should all be equal. Born in Wexford hospital, Doyle had a few happy years living with his parents and younger sister Ann in Ballymore, Co Wexford, before his mother Lil died from breast cancer aged His father Paddy took his own life five weeks later.
From an early age, Doyle suffered from the neurological condition dystonia, a chronic involuntary movement disorder characterised by repetitive and sustained muscle contractions. From that time onwards, he became a wheelchair user. In his book, Doyle maintained his condition was a psychosomatic one brought on by the trauma of his childhood. He spoke frankly on numerous occasions about his struggle to reduce prescription medicines, highlighting the dangers of taking highly addictive drugs on a long-term basis.
He also campaigned for the legalisation of medically supervised marijuana. Doyle spent his late teenage years with the McGrath foster family in Ranelagh, Dublin, which was a wholly positive experience for him.
He met his wife Eileen, a paediatric nurse, in the early s at the National Ballroom. He sat outside the hall in protest, but on the third night the manager let him in.
His first fitness endurance record was in May , where he set a new World Record for the most push ups in four and half hours carrying 50lb weight on his back, completing a total of 4, He completed the following in 18 hrs: 56 mins: 9 sec's:.
